Dance of Awareness: Weekend Urban Retreat

10-12th April 2026 at Yama Studios, Glasgow

How is Spring unfurling for you?

Is there space in your diary to give yourself time to move, breathe and be in good company?

Subhanaya and I would love to welcome you to Dance of Awareness, 10–12 April 2026 at the beautiful Yama Studios in Glasgow

We’ll be joined by Maitrivira, a deeply experienced and heartfelt meditation teacher. This is our third year of collaborating, and we genuinely treasure creating spaces that feel warm, grounded and spacious enough for depth, integration and real connection.

Over the weekend we’ll slow down and listen closely — sensing into the subtle details of lived experience through both movement and meditation. We’ll weave between dance and stillness, exploring how these two practices inform and deepen one another, supporting presence and aliveness.

For me, there’s something profoundly settling about this rhythm — moving fully and then resting in stillness. The quality of presence that emerges can feel different from sitting meditation alone: embodied, alive, integrated.

Each day will include guided dance sessions, short meditations (15–30 minutes), and time to connect with one another. You’re warmly welcome whether you’re new to movement or meditation, or have an established practice in any meditation or conscious movement discipline.

We’re also delighted that Barbara Murdoch, an experienced retreat chef, will be nourishing us throughout the weekend — with a simple supper on Friday evening, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and teas, coffee and delicious snacks. All food will be vegetarian, with vegan and gluten-free options available.

Going Deeper - Dance of Awareness

29 May, 2026 - 5 June, 2026

Sold out with a waiting list

This 7 day retreat with Jane Belshaw & Subhanaya takes an embodied approach to the traditional Buddhist teaching of the four foundations of mindfulness - of body, feelings, thoughts and awareness - knows as the Satipatthana.

A Going Deeper retreat, for people who have been on retreat before or are familiar with meditation practice.

Led by: Subhanaya, Maitrivira, Jane Belshaw

Retreat Type: Going Deeper

This retreat will take an embodied approach to the traditional Buddhist teaching of the four foundations of mindfulness – of body, feelings, thoughts and awareness – known as the Sattipatthana.

We’ll practice slowing down and sensing into the subtle details of arising experience in movement and meditation, weaving between and combining these two aspects of practice – movement and stillness – to explore and deepen qualities of presence and aliveness.

Developing mindfulness of these aspects of unfolding experience grows our ability to embrace life fully – the painful and the beautiful – and to loosen fixed or limiting views of ourselves and others.

The dance sessions will usually be with music and will involve guided exploration, exercises and time to follow your own experience in movement. No experience of dance or movement is required, only a willingness to explore your experience of movement in the body you are living in. For more information, read the retreat information sheet.

This is a Going Deeper retreat, for people who have done an introductory retreat or have been attending a local Buddhist centre and are familiar with the Metta Bhavana and Mindfulness of Breathing meditation practices.

Bare Bones - An Open Floor workshop

with Audrey Boss & Jane Belshaw

Produced by Lisa Griffiths

Assisted by Killian Strong

Date TBC

In this 3 day workshop we will continue to work with the lived experience of the body itself.

Why Bare Bones?

In a world that calls us to be anywhere but in our own bodies, Bare Bones is an invitation to explore the physicality of your dance and discover the endless landscapes of the moving human body.

This 3 day workshop is an invitation to visit, or revisit, the building blocks of Open Floor movement practice. An opportunity for you to re-member yourself - from the inside out. As we build awareness through the moving body, we can move more freely and expressively and expand our movement vocabularies beyond what we think we already know.

All knowledge

until it's in the body

is still a rumour.

- Anonymous

Ground yourself in Open Floor beyond the theory. We will foreground the basic structures of our practice, inhabiting and moving with our embodied resources as ever present and accessible.

Allow your practice to unfold and reveal itself to you as a known, lived experience rather than a concept we strive to understand. Join us to place our extraordinary bodies centre stage and fully inhabit life.

In our first Bare Bones workshop, we spent three days practising with the body centre stage, developing awareness through movement to support greater freedom, clarity, and range. The emphasis was on grounding OpenFloor practice in direct, embodied experience rather than theory.

We worked in depth with six core movement resources.

In this second three-day workshop, the body again remains centre stage as we practise with the foundational structures of the work through the remaining four core movement resources.

This training offers a focused, embodied framework that supports personal practice, teaching, and the integration of movement awareness into everyday life.

Schedule

10-5 pm each day

An optional vegetarian or vegan lunch is available for £15/day. Lunches are booked and paid for in advance.
